MEMBERS ON THE BALLOT
Supporting Our Own: Superior Court Judge Regina Parker

As we move closer to the November election, NCABL continues our Members on the Ballot series by highlighting another longtime member of our organization who has dedicated her career to public service and the fair administration of justice: Superior Court Judge Regina Parker.

Judge Parker’s career is one of historic achievement, experience, leadership, and service.

A graduate of North Carolina Central University School of Law, Judge Parker began her legal career clerking for the Honorable Clifton Johnson, the first African American District Court Judge in North Carolina. She later practiced law in eastern North Carolina before being appointed to the District Court bench in 2001.

That appointment made Judge Parker the first woman and first African American judge to serve Judicial District 2, which includes Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. In 2018, she again made history when she became the district’s first woman and first African American Chief District Court Judge.

After nearly 25 years of distinguished service on the District Court bench, Governor Josh Stein appointed Judge Parker to the Superior Court in May 2026.

Judge Parker’s career reflects so much of what NCABL represents: excellence in the legal profession, service to our communities, leadership, mentorship, and opening doors for those who follow. Her journey from clerking for a judicial trailblazer to becoming a trailblazer herself is part of the continuing legacy that NCABL exists to preserve and advance.

Judge Parker has also remained committed to the communities she serves. Her work has included initiatives addressing mental health and the opioid crisis, juvenile justice, court appearances, and programs designed to improve outcomes for young people and families.

Most importantly for us, Judge Parker is one of our own. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers.

Our members serve North Carolina in courtrooms, law offices, classrooms, communities, and public institutions across this state. When they step forward to serve, we should know who they are, recognize their contributions, and understand the importance of their service.

Judge Regina Parker is on the ballot this November for Superior Court Judge in Judicial District 2.

As Election Day approaches, we encourage our members and friends—particularly those in Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties—to learn more about Judge Parker, her record of service, and the judicial race on their ballot.

This is why Members on the Ballot matters. These are not simply names we see during election season. They are members of our NCABL family who have worked alongside us, supported our mission, served our communities, and helped carry forward the legacy of Black lawyers and judges in North Carolina.

Let’s make sure our members know when one of our own is on the ballot.
